S+C BOWERS & JONES

For many years the manufacture of rolls has been an important part of S+C’s finish machined products business. At the beginning of 2010, all of the Group’s roll manufacturing activities were brought together in one location near Wolverhampton (UK) in a newly constructed manufacturing facility for the group’s rolls specialist, S+C Bowers & Jones.

Since joining the international S+C Group in 1997, our customers have benefi ted from the combination of S+C’s specialist knowledge of materials and B&J’s experience of roll design. For many years the design of tube and section rolls for the cold rolling industry has provided an important part of our comprehensive customer service. Our experienced technical staff, as well as continuous investment has built S+C B&J into a centre of competence for the design, manufacture and the world-wide distribution of rolls for a wide range of sizes for many applications. The complete in-house service provided by our experienced engineers, includes in depth technical advice on rolls as well as the optimisation of production processes.

The roll design, quality of the manufacture of the roll and the quality of materials used are critical for the performance and lifespan of the roll. This, in conjunction with technical advice provided by the roll manufacturer will infl uence the quality of the rolled product. The adjacent tooling triangle illustrates the relatively small cost of the new roll compared with the total overall lifetime cost of the roll. Investment in a high quality roll is therefore the logical conclusion.
