Media Reports 2010
15th March 2010 Lindlar / San Antonio. From 15th until 18th March 2010 the international conference and exhibition "Corrosion 2010" is taking place in San Antonio, USA. Schmidt + Clemens, the high-grade steel specialist located in Lindlar (Germany), will again present its range of products and know-how to the international visitors at an exhibition booth staffed with expert advisers.
Over the past years S+C has begun to promote its Research & Development division more strongly. The R&D activities of Schmidt + Clemens set high standards in the industry. „In 2009 we commissioned our new College of Technology", states Jan Schmidt-Krayer, Managing Partner. „ Despite difficult economic times we want to be engaged in research assuming that we will emerge from the recession stronger than before. " We will continue developing technical innovations for example in the area of high-temperature applications. Among other features S+C is running a world-wide exclusive test rig for heat-resistant materials. These Centralloy® alloys and micro-alloys have especially been developed for petrochemical requirements. One highlight is special aluminous alloys, the so called "Centralloy® HT materials family" for high-temperature applications in steam-cracker furnaces as well as in the iron-ore direct reduction industries.
"A new dimension in materials development makes the leap into nanotechnology possible, for example with our material Centralloy® 4852 Micro R", according to Dr. Dietlinde Jakobi, responsible for the Schmidt + Clemens Group's R&D Department.
Schmidt + Clemens is also known as a leading company in the field of wet corrosion and is thus participating in a project together with GFZ, a leading European Geo-science institute, aiming at qualifying new materials so as to economically produce geothermal power in northern Europe.
Up to now this region has not been developed for geothermal use. The technology in question is the so-called "Enhanced Geothermal Power Plants" where not only heat but also electricity can be produced. Geothermal fluid in this area is extremely salty and corrosive. S+C is responsible for the material corrosion tests which are carried out in a pilot plant which is currently being built.
Besides sales and marketing S+C's R&D division is present in San Antonio too. For the "Corrosion 2010" trade fair a record participation is forecast", says Lars Niemczewski, Head of Marketing of Schmidt + Clemens. „This confirms our participation in the exhibition. Even in difficult economic times we must not economise on research and development. This is what makes us strong for the future."
Schmidt + Clemens is an international, family-owned company with the emphasis on producing spun- and static castings as well as forged materials.
In addition to the German headquarters S+C also has production plants in Brazil, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Spain, the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Schmidt + Clemens Group employs more than 1000 people, about 600 of which are working at the headquarters in Germany. No charge for printing but a voucher copy for S+C is requested.
