LIVING IN OBERBERG
Our company group headquarters is located in Lindlar, at the heart of the Oberberg region with its stunning natural arena. And there are plenty of good reasons why it’s worth working and living here: the good infrastructure, attractive cities in the vicinity of the scenically appealing Oberberg district, a wide variety of sporting and cultural activities and, last but not least, Schmidt + Clemens, one of the region’s most attractive employers.
Oberberg district: nature at its best, near Cologne!
With its thirteen towns and municipalities, the Oberberg district covers around 920 km². Approximately 280,000 people live and work there. The district capital is Gummersbach, with 54,000 inhabitants. The city is well-known far beyond its limits thanks to its handball club, VfL Gummersbach, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2011. Schmidt + Clemens is the club’s premium partner.
Located at the heart of the Bergisches Land nature park, the district offers more than idyllic spots, rolling hills and streams flowing through its valleys. The individual municipalities offer outstanding public and private schools, and the district also boasts an excellent, varied cultural programme. And, for those who want even more, Rhine metropolis Cologne is within easy striking distance. It can be reached conveniently by regional train or car, via the A4 motorway, which is just a few minutes from Lindlar.
Lindlar, young, yet traditional!
Lindlar is home to our company headquarters. The little community, which numbers 22,000 inhabitants, is located in a gentle valley basin 110 – 350 metres above sea level. Lindlar isn’t exaggerating when it describes itself as a holiday and leisure resort. An excellent range of sporting and cultural activities, mini golf, a leisure park, indoor pool and the Bergische Open-Air Museum, which is funded by the Rhineland Regional Council, are just some of the things which make Lindlar such an attractive place to live. The community has a grammar school, a secondary modern school and a special school. Primary schools are located in individual community areas. The Oberberg district also provides inhabitants with excellent medical care, which includes GPs, specialists and hospitals. The health centre at Lindlar’s hospital is just one example.
“Dröppelminna” & co.
Die Many people associate two things with our region: the VfL Gummersbach’s handball team and the famous afternoon coffee spread, the “Bergische Kaffeetafel”. And it‘s worth experiencing both; be it an exciting game by the VfL Gummersbach pros in the Eugen-Haas sports hall, or a traditional afternoon coffee party where an old-fashioned coffeepot, the “Dröppelminna”, is used and which leaves almost nothing to be desired. But the Bergisches Land offers even more. Seemingly endless hiking paths through the magnificent natural surroundings along the banks of the Wupper, Agger and Leppe. Unforgettable shopping in the nearby Rhine metropolises, the Ruhr area or our district capital. Cyclists and water babes, who enjoy the Bergische bathing lakes, both get their money’s worth in this area.
