Schmidt + Clemens donates for flood victims in Pakistan

15.000,00 € for Malteser International

Lindlar/Engelskirchen, 09.09.2022. Today at the Malteser Kommende in Engelskirchen, the managing partner of Schmidt + Clemens, Jan Schmidt-Krayer, presented a donation check for € 15,000.00 for the flood victims in Pakistan to the Secretary General of Malteser International, Clemens Graf von Mirbach-Harff.

Following heavy rains in recent months, more than 33 million people in Pakistan have been affected by flooding. "The situation in the flooded areas, such as in Sindh province, is devastating. With the heavy rains having already continued since June, diseases such as cholera are now threatening to break out. Through our local partners, we will send mobile medical teams to the most affected regions to prevent the spread of epidemics. We will also distribute tents, medicines and cash to 6,000 particularly vulnerable families in Sanghar and Mirpur Khas districts," said Cordula Wasser, head of Malteser International's Asia department.

"We are an internationally operating family business and as such we also take responsibility in society. The population in Pakistan urgently needs support," said Jan Schmidt-Krayer. "With Malteser International, we have found a partner that has already been professionally involved in Pakistan for some time."

Already in the past weeks, volunteers trained by Malteser International in disaster preparedness in the severely affected province of Sindh have assisted in rescue operations and evacuation of families. In trainings, the volunteers were trained to warn the population about disasters at an early stage, and to accompany people to higher ground during floods. In addition, the teams were equipped with tents, tarpaulins and hygiene kits for emergencies.

This year's monsoon rains are the heaviest in about 30 years, according to the Pakistani government. One million homes have already been destroyed or damaged. One in seven inhabitants of the South Asian country has been affected by the floods.
