At the beginning of the week, Jan Schmidt-Krayer, managing partner of the Lindlar-based stainless steel specialist Schmidt + Clemens (S+C), met the head of the Malaysian government in Berlin. Prime Minister Najib is currently on a three-day state visit to Germany and took the opportunity to conduct talks with senior representatives from the German industrial sector.

In his speech, the premier described bilateral German-Malaysian economic relations as "stable and sustainable".

Schmidt-Krayer reports: "Two years ago, the easing of import duties and an excellent cooperation with the Malaysian organisation for economic promotion, MIDA (Malaysian Investment Development Authority), prompted us to continue to invest in Malaysia."

Germany is the largest investor in Malaysia within the European Union. Over 400 German companies are now active in Malaysia.

After the meeting with the German economic delegation, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed the state visitor with military honours in front of the Federal Chancellery.

The Schmidt + Clemens Group employs a staff of more than 1,000 worldwide (about 600 of them in Germany) and, in addition to its headquarters in Germany, also produces in Spain, the Czech Republic, Malaysia and the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia.
