RISE IN SALES REVENUE

Schmidt + Clemens presents its business figures

Schmidt + Clemens (S+C), the family-owned group of companies based in Lindlar, Germany, has today presented its business figures for the year 2017. Despite the weakness of demand on its international markets, the group of companies managed to record a satisfactory result. Group sales rose to 248.4 million euros (previous year: 230.5 million), while workforce numbers fell to 995 worldwide.

“The first half of the year under review was characterised by altogether weak demand,” states Jan Schmidt-Krayer, managing partner. “From the summer onwards, we were able to observe a slight improvement in demand.”

The world political situation in 2017 was very tense, with the war in Syria and the situation in the Near East playing a significant role. The operating framework in Germany also presented S+C once again with major challenges. High taxes and levies, the special levy for renewable energies and the high level of wage costs continue to be an impediment to production in Germany, resulting in the capacities at the production companies in other countries already being expanded in previous years.

2017 was also a successful year for the S+C Akademie. S+C was named by the business magazine “Focus” as one of Germany’s best training employers.

S+C’s primary goal for 2018 is to strengthen the core business through improved market penetration, product differentiation und expansion. S+C is thereby expecting to see cautious improvement on the markets. “As part of a strategy project, we are currently working with our German and international employees on the development of a strategic orientation to take the business into the future,” Schmidt-Krayer reports further. “This is intended to provide a firm foundation for the future of the S+C Group.”

As well as the parent site in Germany, the Schmidt + Clemens Group also has production facilities in Spain, the Czech Republic, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. S+C is the world market leader in tube and piping systems for the petrochemical industry. The product range also includes components for the separation technology and energy engineering sectors, industrial furnace construction and the pump industry.
