Materials that Perform. Industries that Advance.
High-performance alloy solutions for the world’s most demanding applicationsS+C components are in operation across a wide range of industries – wherever high temperatures, aggressive environments, and long service life are critical. Our customers trust in our advanced casting expertise and benefit from more than 145 years of materials experience.
A core focus lies in the petrochemical sector, where we are one of the first manufacturers of centrifugally cast tubes and statically cast fittings for virtually all furnace designs. S+C alloys set the benchmark in applications such as reformer and steam cracker technologies.
But our reach extends far beyond: our materials also support the DRI, power generation industry and play a key role in pump and valve manufacturing. Wherever materials are pushed to their limits – S+C delivers performance you can rely on.
Products and Services for the Petrochemical Industry
Solutions for steam crackers and steam reformersProviding solutions to the petrochemical industry is the core business of Schmidt + Clemens. For you, our customer, this means that the focus of our development expertise and investments is on petrochemical issues. We continuously question the “Industry Standards” and address the operating parameters of your production processes.
Ongoing data exchange with many of our customers helps S+C to find customer-tailored process optimisations or solutions to process problems. With such specific design of our products and services we contribute towards our customers increased production volumes, improved system availability and longer service life.
In a typical steam cracker process environment, the formation of coke in the radiant section is a complex and significant problem. Our solution: Centralloy® HT E. Thanks to the precisely controlled composition of this alloy it forms a tightly sealed, “self-healing”, oxide layer which acts effectively to limit the formation of coke and subsequent carburization.
Whilst there are several different types of primary reformer furnace, in all cases the radiant sections contain large numbers of vertically suspended centrifugally cast tubes. It is exactly here that Schmidt + Clemens becomes prominent.
Our centrifugally cast tubes manufactured from heat-resistant materials withstand the ever more demanding operational conditions in primary reformer furnaces. This is primarily a result of our continually improved tube materials which repeatedly set new standards. One example of this is our Centralloy® G 4852 Micro R material. Introduced in 2005 as a material innovation, today it has become a standard in many plants.
Steel Industry
Products and services for direct reduction plantsThe performance of the materials intended for use in process gas heaters and DRI steam reformers is constantly improving. At the same time, the specifications for the processing and installation of these high-end materials in DRI plants are likewise becoming more and more challenging.
Schmidt + Clemens is the market leader in centrifugally cast tubes for the direct reduction industry, thanks to the trust of many customers around the world, which has allowed us to provide more than 85.000 tube assemblies since 1986.
Special Products
For maximum performance in stainless steelDurability and low maintenance are the top priorities for many products made of stainless steels and alloys. The selection of the most suitable material and the appropriate manufacturing process are the key factors for achieving this goal. Whether corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant, or wear-resistant, S+C’s “Special Products” division takes on the challenge and always finds the right solution to ensure that your products will achieve the desired maximum performance.
Their properties make stainless steel castings essential in machine construction/plant engineering and shipbuilding. Contact with fluids, chemicals, gases and seawater places highest requirements on the materials used and their processing. In addition to traditional stainless steels having a ferritic or austenitic structure, heat treatable soft martensitic and duplex/super duplex stainless steels are becoming more and more important. Shipbuilding is also increasingly demanding special and non-magnetizable stainless steels. A wide range of stainless steels is available for the selection of the most suitable material.
The demand on operational reliability, due to high thermal and mechanical loads, is the central point of mechanical engineering for energy technology. Conventional power plants are still necessary and require special, highly heat-resistant materials for burners, such as Centralloy® G4852 Micro and Centralloy® G4630. In hydropower, the corrosion-resistant cast stainless steel Märker® G4317 has proven itself for many years. Other materials are available upon request.
Metallic materials used in the construction of industrial furnaces require particularly high resistance to the effects of hot gases, combustion products, and, in some cases, metals, oxides, and their additives. In addition to high-temperature oxidation resistance, the creep rupture properties of the used materials also play a crucial role.
Advanced materials such as Centralloy® G4879 Micro, featuring micro-alloying technology, and the patented special alloy Centralloy® HTE, with materials own protective layer, demonstrate our innovative strength in the field of heat-resistant materials. For industrial furnace construction, a wide range of materials is available.
Industrial pumps and fittings made of stainless steels are indispensable, whether pumping water or corrosive liquids. Regardless of the medium, the parts are in contact with reliability and maximum service life are the key factors.
Our stainless steels, including Märker® / Centralloy® duplex steels, have proven themselves for decades in this application. For pump shafts, the soft martensitic stainless steel Märker® G4313 is particularly noteworthy. Thanks to a special heat-treatment at S+C, pump shafts are delivered particularly stress-relieve to enable an extremely smooth pump operation.
