Our Team

34 skilled people

Our biggest success factor are the highly skilled people working in our R&D Team. Metallurgists, Chemists, Engineers, Process Experts and Material Testers share their outstanding knowledge to advance our R&D projects. To be able to adapt to every demand, a large research network with 30 universities, institutes and other partners has been established over the years.

A large toolbox for successful development

From virtual simulation to real innovation

Literature databases & patent research tools help us to have the best scientific groundwork for every project. Modern Idea & Project Management Tools guarantee the selection of the best projects. Simulation software for materials and casting techniques enables us to perform large parts of the research work virtually well before the first casting trial Is done. This is a fast and very selective approach and shortens the time-to-market of newly developed products.

Once the first phase of the project is completed, our unique 1500 m² Technology Center comes into play. Our know how, technical abilities and state of the art equipment and software speak for themselves!

Tensile Test
Tensile tests at elevated temperatures assess a material’s strength, ductility, and deformation behavior under thermal and mechanical stress.
Casting in R&D
The Casting Technology Centre is equipped for static and centrifugal casting using various mould types. It produces castings with the identical chemical and metallurgical properties as commercial products, supporting the final transition from R&D to production.
SEM
The metallographic lab at RDS offers SEM/EDX analyses as part of detailed failure investigations or quick routine checks with fast turnaround. This advanced technique combines high-resolution imaging with precise chemical analysis, allowing identification of unknown sample compositions.
Creep Test
At high temperatures, metallic materials deform continuously under mechanical load. The RDS lab at Schmidt + Clemens is equipped with advanced facilities for high-temperature creep machines.
High-Temperature Corrosion Test Rig
The high-temperature corrosion test rig simulates the severe conditions experienced by coil material surfaces in steam crackers on a laboratory scale. It features independent control of gas and sample temperatures, flexible gas mixing, addition of reactive elements or impurities, and the ability to replicate key process steps such as start-up, cracking, and decoking.

At our technology center we have the possibility to develop new materials on a small scale. With our own centrifugal casting machinemachine, we manufacture material samples with the same quality as in our production. Additionally, a dedicated welding area makes it possible to do first welding trials without blocking any production capacities.

Our Success Stories

Real-world impact through advanced development

In the last years, the Research and Development Services Team developed many successful products, like:

IMPROOF
Together for greater sustainability

The qualities of SCOPE® Fusion HT E were subjected to extensive testing within the framework of the EU-funded IMPROOF project, which concluded in November 2020. As a technology supplier, S+C was part of a large consortium incorporating universities, engineering companies and olefin plant operators.

Centralloy® HT E
The state-of-the-art alloy for steam cracker applications

Centralloy® HT E is a material that has been engineered to demonstrate optimal performance in conditions characterized by extreme parameters. This material evidenced exceptional resistance to coking, carburization, and creep, thereby extending its operational life cycle.

SCOPE® Fusion HT E
our profiled tube technology

With its SCOPE® technology, S+C actively contributes to resource conservation and energy efficiency. An innovative technology approach – developed for a more sustainable industry of tomorrow.
